Scottish American Society of South Florida
President’s Welcome Letter
From Jason Wright, President of SASSF
Dear Members and Friends of the Scottish American Society of South Florida,
It is with great honor and enthusiasm that I step into the role of President of SASSF. I am deeply grateful for the trust you’ve placed in me, and I look forward to working alongside each of you as we continue to celebrate and share the rich heritage of Scotland here in South Florida.
As we look ahead, I’d like to share my vision and priorities for the society moving forward. My focus is centered on five key areas:
Membership Growth and Participation – We are only as strong as our community, and I’m committed to growing our membership and encouraging active participation at every level. Whether you’ve been with us for decades or just joined, your involvement matters deeply.
Expanded Regional Reach – SASSF has long been a pillar in Broward County, but we now aim to once again extend our presence more fully into Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties. There are many Scots and friends of Scotland throughout South Florida who’ve yet to connect with us—let’s change that.
Increased Events and Cultural Celebrations – From ceilidhs to cultural nights, we’ll be adding more events throughout the year to bring our community together and keep our traditions alive, not only during the Highland Games but year-round.
Educational Workshops and Cultural Enrichment – To truly preserve Scottish culture, we must teach it. In the coming months, we will begin organizing workshops in piping and drumming, Highland dancing, athletics, and Scottish history—open to all ages and skill levels. These programs will help us pass our traditions on to the next generation.
All of these efforts depend on one thing—you. I took this position not just to lead, but to listen. I invite every member to share your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions. What do you think will help SASSF thrive and grow? What would you like to see more of? This is your society, and my commitment is to ensure your voice is heard.
Together, I believe we can build something lasting that honors the past while embracing the future. I’m excited for the journey ahead and for the opportunity to lead SASSF into a new chapter—one that ensures Scottish culture remains a vibrant part of South Florida for many years to come.
Yours aye,
Jason Wright
