PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Dear Members,

Your new Board is in place and many of the new committee heads have been appointed (please see the column on the left for details).

Every individual on the 2010 / 2011 Board wishes to thank each individual from the 2009 / 2010 Board. In addition, a special thanks to all of the members that showed up and voted and participated in the Annual General Meeting.

We believe that had the weather not been a factor, we should have had at least a near record number of people in attendance. All of the festival committees did their part. Just to mention a few: Park Set-up and Break-down, Hotel, Competition and Bands, Music, Entertainment and Sound System, Vendors, Dancers and Athletes, Runners, Ticket Printing and Gate Collectors, Electric Generators, Clans Coordinator.

The fundraising process has begun. We have agreed to work a concession booth at the Bank Atlantic Center on March 15th. That is a Monday. This is an all-day event which will require us to maintain at least 11 people and as many as 14 people at the booth from 7:00 AM. Until 5:00 PM. If we can do this our minimum fundraising for the day should be $1,000.00. That is a good start.

Susan Molnar has agreed to be our Volunteer Coordinator. Please contact her at suzefm@msn.com or (954) 581-6577

The Fundraising Committee has scheduled their first meeting for Friday night March 5th, at 7:30 PM to be held at The Plantation Presbyterian Church. Everyone with an idea or interest in the continuing success of the Scottish American Society of South Florida and our ability to promote our Scottish Heritage is cordially invited to participate. For those who have never been to our regular meetings please visit the Meetings Page for directions.

This first meeting is to kick around ideas and strategies and perhaps implement some of the ideas for fundraising during the next few months. Some examples are below.

a. Battle of the Pipe Bands
b. Ceilidh
c. Pub Crawl
d. Carwash
e. Golf Tournament
f. Grant Writing
g. Working Bank Atlantic Concession
h. (YOUR IDEA COULD GO HERE)

You are also encouraged to participate in one or more of the other committees. A complete list of some of the individuals that have been appointed can be found on the Contact Us Page.

Sincerely

Robert Ritchie
President, Scottish American Society of South Florida, Inc.
